Badgers go nap at Chelmsley

Midland League Division 1

Saturday 17th October 2020

Chelmsley Town 2 Brocton 5

An early corner whipped over for Chelmsley’s Adam Keeley, was headed over the bar before Brocton createdtwo quick chances of their own. Jake Thomas from the right and soon after Owen Nolan from the left strucktempting low crosses in and across the box to convince any spectator that this would not be a no score draw.

Dean Williams had already had a half chance which he could not quite get under his spell in the box, before inthe 6th minute, he finished off a fine cross from Adam Weldon to put the Badgers ahead. There was no let up as Brocton stroked the ball about the pitch and a clean volley after chest control from DanLomas converted from a pin point cross from Adam Weldon.

That was on the quarter hour and barely more than five minutes later Lomas made it two for himself and threefor Brocton when he dribbled into the box and as opportunities to pass faded away, Lomas kept good closecontrol before slamming the ball past keeper Tom Allsopp.

Dean Williams’ downward header was collected by Allsopp before the home side made two tacticalsubstitutions as they tried to stem the tide. The pair did well enough to prevent any further score althoughWilliams again came close with his head from a Nolan cross just before the break.

It was clear from the outset of the second half that Chelmsley were more determined to close down earlier andtheir efforts were rewarded with a goal from youngster Adam Woods who scored his first goal for his club. The relief was short lived though as Williams scored a close range effort after pressure mounted from a Brocton corner and one of our own youngsters Ben Haddaway scored a screamer from 20 yards or more with his owndebut goal for the first team.

That made it five, but Chelmsley kept at it and earned themselves a consolation second from San Jeeves as aflick on from Jack Whelan wrong footed the Brocton defence.
