Brocton 1 Boldmere St Michaels 1

On a scorching afternoon at Silkmore Lane, Brocton and Boldmere St Michaels had to battle the extreme conditions as they couldn’t be separated in the run up to the new season.

Brocton created the first opportunity of the game in the 14th minute. Jake Thomas found space on the right and his cross to Ben Haddaway saw Mikes’ keeper, Dan Crane, off his line to clear the danger. Three minutes later, it was the visitors who created an opening with Danny O’Sullivan picking out Kyle Byrne with his bovver over Josh Moreton and the crossbar. Robbie Thompson-Brown fired wide for the Mikes when in a good position. Todd Pryor created a chance for Dean Williams, threading the ball through to the striker’s feet but he was crowded out by the Boldmere defence. Brocton took the lead in spectacular fashion on the half hour mark. A Free-kick was awarded to The Badgers after Cameron Jackson was fouled. Williams stepped up and curled his shot past Crane and into the net. Williams was close to doubling his tally just before the interval, curling a shot over after a quick break from defence. In first half stoppage time, Boldmere were level. O’Callaghan reached the by-line, and his cross was not dealt with by the Badgers defence. Joe Daley was on hand to lash the ball past Moreton.

Moreton was forced into a fine save less than a minute into the second half from substitute Trialist A. The Brocton keeper was called into action to save from Harry Craven and Pedro Lima headed over as Boldmere began to ask questions. On the hour mark, the ball bobbled around the Brocton six-yard box, but a mixture of luck and good defending cleared the danger. Both sides were struggling in the heat with attempts on target few and far between. With two minutes remaining, Brocton had a glorious chance to earn the win. A free-kick from Thomas was headed back into the box by Jackson, the ball fell invitingly to Ben Haddaway, but he couldn’t keep the shot down and it flew over the bar. In stoppage time, a nasty clash of heads between Ben Manton and Jackson saw both players have extensive treatment and the match officials decided to end it there.
