Brocton made five changes from the side that lost narrowly to Shifnal Town on Saturday. Tony Allsopp, Cooper Marsh, Jake Danan (on debut), Cam Osborne and Will Whieldon replaced Henry Smith, Ben Haddaway, Lucas Green-Birch, Christian Blanchette and Morgan Payne. Step 4 Newcastle fielded a near full strength side in their visit to Silkmore Lane.
Brocton started the quicker. In the 4th minute, the returning Whieldon saw his shot blocked for a corner. In the 10th minute, an excellent ball from Connor Haddaway picked out Whieldon but his shot was off target. In the 19th minute, Whieldon forced a fine save from Joseph Slinn, palming over a well hit free kick. Newcastle were quick both on and off the ball and their shape caused Brocton numerous problems. Brocton suffered a blow when skipper Haddway limped off on the half hour mark to be replaced by Green-Birch. It was Newcastle who took the lead in the 35th minute. Ty Webster picked up a pass from Isaac Godwin, drove forward and curled a stunning shot into the top corner giving Allsopp no chance. Two minutes later, Oli Armstrong forced a low save from Allsopp as Newcastle strove for a second. That goal duly arrived in the 38th minute. Armstrong ran through the Brocton defence, played the ball into the path of Jake Avery and his shot nestled in the far corner. Newcastle continued to press, and Avery went close with a free kick which was just wide. Brocton had a rare chance when Reg Smith was off target with a snap shot from distance. Deep into stoppage time, a fierce drive from Fin Starkey-Jones was blocked by Josh Simcox.
Half-Time: Brocton 0 Newcastle Town 2
Newcastle started the second half determined to finish the game off, Webster had a shot which was deflected for a corner. From the resulting dead ball, there was pinball in the Brocton box with Tom Vaughan clearing the ball off the line and eventually to safety. Brocton had a great chance to reduce the deficit in the 54th minute. Whieldon played the ball inside to Smith; His shot was blocked by the Newcastle defence. The ball fell invitingly to Green-Birch who volleyed over the bar. Newcastle were playing some attractive, incisive football and from a good move through midfield, Starkey-Jones was wide with his effort. In the 59th minute, Smith played the ball over the top of the Newcastle defence to Whieldon, but he failed to get sufficient contact on his shot. Brocton were now creating a few chances. From a Whieldon free kick on the right, Cam Osborne headed wide. Newcastle remained dangerous in attack. Tim Grice hit the side netting with an effort before Avery fired across the face of goal. Newcastle went close in the 78th minute, when Grice connected with a cross from the left but saw his shot rebound off the post. Grice then had another shot deflected over the bar. In the 86th minute, Newcastle made it three. Grice moved the ball away from Vaughan who brought down the striker in attempting to clear. Grice himself took the resulting penalty and despite a great effort from Allsopp, the ball found the back of the net. Brocton grabbed a consolation in the 2nd minute of time added on. Charlie King was fouled on the edge of the area. Up stepped Smith who curled a superb free kick over the wall and into the top corner.
