Chasetown victorious in the rain

The Badgers were beaten 3-1 by Step 4 Chasetown in their latest friendly at Silkmore Lane. The visitors took the lead with a superb curled finish from Jack Longson (who made 1 appearance for the Badgers last season). A Chasetown trialist should have been shown a red card for a pre-meditated over the top challenge on Kenny Devoir. After a lengthy conversation with captain Langston and the miscreant, the referee chose to take no further action. Two minutes later, the villain of the piece hit a shot from 30 yards which Tony Allsopp managed to push against the post but it dribbled across the line to double Chasetown's lead. Former Chasetown striker, Reg Smith reduced the deficit with an excellent finish following some good Brocton approach play.

The second half was a bit less frenetic with both sides making wholesale changes. Luke Yates made it three for the visitors with a calm finish. the final 3-1 scoreline flattered Chasetown somewhat but there were many positives for a Brocton side missing a number of key players.

The Badgers travel to Stone Old Alleynians on Tuesday evening before hosting Lye Town in their final outing before the commencement of the NWCFL campaign.
