Brocton were forced into yet more changes with Ben Haddaway, Jake Thomas and Levi Reid all injured in last Saturday’s defeat at the hands of Coton Green. Kenny Devoir, with a broken nose, Will Whieldon and Cooper Marsh all started in their place. Wolverhampton City came into the game unbeaten in six games, sitting in second position in the table. Their defence had been miserly with only three goals conceded.
Brocton started quickly. Inside the first minute, a Connor Haddaway free kick was touched goalwards by Reg Smith and was blocked. In the fourth minute, a miss kick from Sam Arnold was luckily grabbed at the second attempt by the Wolverhampton keeper. Reg Smith then set up Jude King, but Arnold beat the youngster to the ball. Wolverhampton had the ball in the net in the ninth minute. Danny Munday finishing well but was flagged for offside. In the 14th minute, a shot from Haddaway was well saved by Arnold, the ball just evading the waiting Smith in the six yard box. A good interchange between Whieldon and Haddaway culminated in a Whieldon shot being blocked. Wolverhampton had the ball in the net again in the 24th minute. Harry Bower finishing nicely but again he was clearly offside. Bower then flashed a shot wide of the post as the visitors pushed for an opener. The veteran Sean Williams ran at the Brocton defence, and his shot was deflected for a corner. In the 34th minute. Chris Blanchette and Smith combined as Blanchette forced a save from Arnold. Brocton were looking positive going forward. Jude King played the ball into the path of Marsh who strode forward hit a shot just wide. Blanchette then headed over the bar before Brocton took the lead in stoppage time. Charlie King hassled the Wolverhampton defence, won the ball, and passed to Smith. Using his strength, Smith forced a foul challenge, and the referee awarded a penalty. Whieldon stepped up and made no mistake from the spot.

Brocton went close to doubling their lead inside the first minute of the half. A free kick from Haddaway was flicked goalwards by Smith and saved by the feet of Arnold. Blanchette was just wide following good work down the right before Bower was over the bar for the visitors. Brocton had a good chance in the 65th minute when Charlie King played a perfectly weighted ball into the path of Jude King, but the ball ran away from the teenager. In the 70th minute, Jude King forced another save from Arnold before Brocton doubled their lead a minute later. Jude King played the ball into the path of Cam Osborne, on for Reg Smith. Osborne took the ball on his left, cut back onto his right and finished superbly. Wolverhampton were pushing to get back into the game. A free kick from Bower, was caught under his bar by Kyle Langston. In the 81st minute, a foul by Devoir on George Lycett saw a free kick for Wolverhampton in the ‘D’. Alex Ryder’s shot was blocked by the wall. Two minutes later, a shot from Luqman Wirba was well saved by Langston. Lycett then had a shot deflected for a corner before Wolverhampton pulled a goal back. A cross into the area fell to Timothy Oyanda and his bicycle kick was brilliantly executed. Deep into stoppage time, a Wolverhampton corner saw the ball ricochet off attacking bodies and out for a goal kick.
